A weekend with Bernie

Truth devotional speech satsang
Recently I took part in a weekend workshop with a self-realized Tantric teacher which was held in Glastonbury. The content of the weekend consisted mainly of Satsang, which is devotional speech with questions and answers. This is a new concept for me when it comes to Tantric workshop experiences, which are often focused on practises and techniques.

In Bernie’s presence I felt a great deal of transmission and I soaked up the open hearted connection present throughout the weekend and the sacred space that was created.

Bernie Prior teaches truth in every moment at soul level. Then and only then will true integration take place with the stripping away of one’s identity coming forth, allowing wholeness to occur.
Truth in every moment can be brutal as only real honesty can be. Bernie referred often throughout the weekend ‘be prepared to die for everything you know and identify with, don’t hold onto anything, let life and love flow through you, its living and breathing and forever evolving only then can one be truly present.’

Listen with your heart not your head. Our heads are full of stories, conditioning and old memories, trapping us and limiting us, not serving us in the now. Let life unfold and reveal itself from your deepest knowing, your heart will thank you for it.

Bernie Prior approach is a bit like a sledgehammer getting people to their raw truth by asking questions that were challenging and getting to the core. It’s certainly a recipe for rapid growth and transformation. I loved the weekend. It resonated in every vibration in my body, and left me with a curiosity and hunger for more.
Tantric teaching can have this effect but it’s hugely important to feel a connection to the teachings and be in a trusted environment. It’s wise to remember to be discerning and allow the information that feels right in your deepest knowing to open and transform. www.bernieprior.org

Contraction and expansion

People jumping Expansion Energy Connection Sunset
Wow! Isn't it great to see the first signs of spring. Of course all seasons are special and should be welcomed for what they offer but often we have a preference or a season that is an instant mood enhancer.

That brings me to this month’s topic: Contraction as much as Expansion is a necessary part of our journey and growth and should be welcomed, for it teaches us to be vulnerable and allows us empathy and compassion and most of all acceptance of ourselves and others. Expansion of mind and body consciousness is what many of us strive to maintain in daily living. However, maintaining the state of expanded consciousness in an often busy frenetic world can be extremely challenging. It is often much easier for us to feel connected and experience heightened states of awareness whilst being part of a group dynamic such as a Tantric workshop or experiencing a Tantric session.

All our senses can be remarkably heightened, our perception sharper, our hearts open and receptive and our ability to connect with ourselves and others at a much deeper level. One of the beautiful things about being in a workshop or session space is we are usually forced to work through challenging issues and emotions that arise, but we are doing so in a safe and sacred environment that supports our process with likeminded people. We ourselves have experienced a wide range of emotions on workshops: from laughter to sadness, sometimes almost ready to make a run for the door. Thank goodness we stayed! Imagine what we would have missed...it has often been transformative.

Following Tantric workshops or sessions it is important to be aware that we may experience a period of contraction. This could be experienced in different ways such as feeling detached from ourselves and others as our heart yearns for the deep connection it has recently experienced. A sense of loss is sometimes felt as we struggle to hold on to our newly awakened state. We may also still be processing unresolved issues that have been repressed for some time.It can be challenging integrating our experiences in our relationships and day to day life, so it is vital to take care of yourself at these times and really listen to your body’s signals. It is like letting the dust settle. The great news is you will feel much lighter and in tune with yourself than you probably have felt in a very long time.

Another tip to integrating which we find tremendous fun is to attend interactive group get togethers. Luckily we are spoilt for choice in London. One of our favourites is Dynamic Meditation, practised in many venues throughout London...it really gets you grounded in your body as well as being very cathartic. Chi gong is always a firm favourite with the emphasis on being deeply rooted before starting to circulate ones energy. This helps with counteracting highs and lows and stabilising the body’s energies. A good place to start if you are looking to attend a chi gong class is chikungschool.com
So with these tips we hope this helps you to welcome and accept yourself as the fascinating tapestry you are!

Tip 2 - Releasing and awakening

Chakras meditationHere we are in 2009! How did you start your year...with a spring in your step, in a daze, full of good intentions, excitement and/or nervousness about the future, holding on to disappointments, celebrating with joy and a sense of lightness and wonder about yourself and those around you?

Last year we found ourselves spending an amazing, joyful time in northern California where we participated in a Tantra group workshop led by Steve and Lokita Carter from the Ecstatic Living Institute and Margot Anand. We started every morning with an active meditation...one of them being the Quantum Light Breath. This is a dynamic breath meditation which was originally created by Jeru Kabal, the late mystic. There is another version by Richard Bock and the Quantum Light Breath Orchestra which is equally powerful. Richard Bock studied with Jeru in 1992 and he came along on one of the mornings and guided us through the meditation accompanied by wonderful live music...it was an unforgettable experience...

Practicing Tantra almost inevitably means having to do emotional healing work...a spring clean of things that are holding us back, releasing old beliefs, emotions, thoughts and dissolving those barriers that have been limiting us...to clear the path and avoid falling back into old patterns... The Quantum Light Breath meditation is a great tool to use for this and also going through any kind of transition or seeking spiritual expansion. You can do it alone however we would recommend doing it with someone for the first time and of course the energy changes again with a group dynamic. You may find different things coming up: emotions, thoughts or sensations and it is important to allow those things to just be there without becoming involved or caught up in them.

Anything that helps us to feel stronger, more balanced and fulfilled cannot be bad!

Ready to explore?

Glass pendants hanging Questions
We like to ask people who come along and attend a session with us the question: What has drawn you to Tantra? The answers we receive are interesting and varied. Some of the common responses are; wanting to integrate sexuality and spiritual practices working with sexual energy, which can be enticing and also bring the missing link that they have been seeking, a sense of shyness, fear or guilt surrounding sexuality, problems with intimacy or a feeling of becoming disconnected and wishing to bring back that spark to maintain fulfilment and richness in their relationships, unable to receive and to let go of expectations, a busy stressful lifestyle and in need of some pampering, being stuck in certain emotions, looking for a playful and enjoyable way to explore themselves, missing a sense of deep connection or a feeling that ‘there must be more.’ Of course there are also people who are not sure why or just curious but sense that it would be a positive step.

Now that you have decided to explore your Tantric journey further, the question may be where do I go from here?
Workshops are often a good way to explore either singularly or as a couple or you may feel more comfortable having a private session to begin with. You may wish to gain knowledge by listening to a talk on Tantra as your first Tantric introduction. We were deeply inspired by Tantra teacher Sarita Mahasatvaa of the school of awakening. She holds regular talks in London and further afield.
www.tantralink.com is also a great source of information. We both offer sessions for individuals and couples and are very happy to chat and discuss your session further.

We would encourage you to explore a little and go with what feels right for you......take a leap!
